As a proud Indiana University alumnus and Bloomington resident, it was a no-brainer that our first limited edition timepiece should tell a story about Kirkwood.

Almost every community has a downtown main street that locals patronize for food, shopping, and nightlife, but Kirkwood is so much more than that.

Sure, I may be a little a lot biased towards Kirkwood. But considering IU is an oasis located smack dab in the middle of nowhere, naturally, one has no choice but to gravitate to the cooler parts of town, right?

On that note, I’m convinced that the majority of IU students (legacies not included) were introduced to Kirkwood in one of two ways:

  1. Students paid Sample Gates a visit for the classic “Hey, look at me, I’m in front of the Sample Gates, ha” photo. Then looked ahead and thought, “Oh, what a nice street,” or “Nice, they’ve got a Chipotle here!”
  2. During a trip to campus with the parentals and siblings, the Fam Bam gets hungry. Mom or Dad asks a random where to get a decent burger or something. You’re immediately directed to Kirkwood, and then you obviously end up at Nick’s…but probably Chipotle.

Now, while many of us spent our time on Kirkwood cramming at The Pourhouse or getting fresh at Urban Outfitters (overpriced much?), others opted to take Rumplemintz shots to the head at KOK on $2 Tuesday — and that’s perfectly fine, too.

In spite of which direction Kirkwood took (or still takes) you, one thing holds true: Kirkwood has a special place in the heart of every Hoosier.

And we’re going to make a timepiece dedicated to it.

Stay tuned,
